Team Trivia

On Monday Nights we gather for an evening of Team Trivia.  If you’ve never been here on a Monday, here is what you’re missing:

The kitchen is open by 7pm, and every week we have a menu that varies slightly.  You’ll usually find . . .

  • Burgers (1/3lb, fresh ground beef)
  • Vegan-friendly Black Bean Burgers
  • Fries
  • Onion Rings
  • Mozzy Sticks
  • Chicken Wings (over 2 dozen flavors)
  • Boneless Wings

and occassionally we’ll cook up something like our Open Face Shredded Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches, or Roast Beef, or even Ribeye Philly Cheese Steaks.  It’s common practice for folks to text or call in and ask “What’s on the menu tonight?”.  It’s always something, and we’re serving until 11.  So, if you are one of the Monday pool shooters, stop by after the match!

At 8:00 we threaten to start the Team Trivia conTest.  That’s usually when the behind the scenes shuffle starts, but the action doesn’t really hit until 8:15.

People gather into teams to answer trivia questions.  Teams can be as big or small as you wish, so bring however many friends you need to make for a good night out.  And if you’re flying solo, we can hook you up with a team when you get here.

The Game:

There are four rounds of trivia questions.  The topics vary greatly, from school book stuff (history, geography, science, literature) to sports, or pop culture, movies, or just plain strange facts.  Sample questions might be . . .

  • Who was Robin Hood’s girlfriend?
  • What did the 7 dwarves do for a job?
  • Name the actors who played James Bond.
  • What’s the highest mountain in the world?
  • Who said, “Vini, vidi, vici”?
  • How many months have 31 days?
  • How many dots are there on two dice?
  • What are the five colours of the Olympic rings?
  • Which is the only mammal that can’t jump?
  • What does the roman numeral C represent?
  • What song does Huckleberry Hound sing?

Sprinkled in are a handful of sound clips where players must name the artist performing a song, or perhaps finish the lyrics.  There are movie clips as well.

Teams get a point for every question they answer correctly, and the team with the most points at the end of the night wins.  It’s really that simple.  With the victory comes not only the prize pool, but bragging rights, and possession of the coveted trophy to display during their reign as trivia champions!

The Barstool of Knowledge – is a very special seat in the house.  Between rounds of trivia, anyone in the room is given the chance to sit upon the barstool of knowledge and answer a Prize Question.  Be the first to answer correctly, and win a prize package!

Drink Specials – of course!   You can count on $3 personal pitchers of Miller Lite on a Monday Night.  Other drinks specials make their way onto the board.  Mondays are where we learned the joys of the “Lost Cherry”, the “French Hooker” and other mixed drinks.

’tis the Season for BIG PRIZES - I don’t want to say that Team Trivia runs in “seasons” because it’s not really like that.  But, we do tend to save up and then have a bash a couple of times a year with extra prizes and games – and nonsense galore.  An example would be our Summer Gas Grill Giveaway that we’ve done several times.

Any regular old week that you play, your name goes on a card that goes into the basket.  When the Big Prize day comes around, we start the games by picking names from the basket.  So, the more often you play, the better your chances of having your name pulled!!  Of course, that just begins the journey . . .
