And we do have a date!  the Summer give-away “Trivia on Steroids” event will be June 18th, the Monday after Father’s Day.  Which seems like a good time to celebrate early summer, and give away all sorts of cool stuff (I’m sure Deke has been shopping for goodies for a while now)!

If you have been playing trivia, your name has been going into the bucket every time you appear on a Monday Night to join in on the fun.  If you haven’t been playing trivia, it is not too late to join the ranks of those who have a chance to play the zany games that determine who wins the prizes on the 18th!

Now, on to recapping our last two weeks . . .

everyone kindof just joined in the fun of chasing the title, and the traditional “RZA bashing” continued in their absence.

two Monday ago the teams of:

• That’s The Way She Goes and
• The Corner Team

met to do battle.  well, play team trivia.

at halftime team Chooch was in the lead by a single point over “The RZA’s . . . ” with the rest of the field being two points off of the lead.

At the turn (that’s the end of the third quarter, where the game turns into the “home stretch”.  and yes, i made that up. kinda.), everyone was still separated by two points at most.  At the finish line, the team of Tanny, Joe Z, Big A, et al came in first.  here’s a snapshot of our winning lads . . .

Monday May 14th:

Despite inclement weather, Seven Teams made it out for trivia! they included:

right from the start the team of “It’s Raining . . .” jumped out to a three point lead, and kept it at halfway point.  coming out of the turn they still had a two point lead over the pack!

and they finished strong, taking the title, besting three other teams by two points (I’m with Stupid, Travolta and the T-birds, and Da RZA).

we have some tables that are put into use as “beer pong” courts from time to time, but two Fridays ago we pulled out all of the gear and had an “official” tournament.  30 some players gathered for what turned out to be a Great Time!!

Nicki was kind enough to draw up a set of rules, because beer pong resembles the game of “8 ball” in that there are a handful of rules to choose from. Here are the rules we went by that evening . . . .

of course some people just had fun, while others dusted off their skills and enjoyed the competing to be the top dog.  before it was all over, several teams proved themselves to be very strong beer pong players. actually, the final match went into TRIPLE Overtime!  and from that match, our winners emerged  . . . .

all settled in for a good time, and a little friendly trivia competition

It’s hard to win or lose the game after the opening round, and even at halftime the team in the lead was there by the slimmest of margins (yep, by a single point).  in between rounds, players were picking up prizes for being able to

1.)Name ALL Seven of the Dwarves, and

2.) List the different versions of the uber-popular videogame “Angry Birds”

3.) Identify countries that have the letters “U, S, and A” in their names.  Just four of them and you were able to walk away with a Lord Chesterfield T shirt

By the end of the third round, the pack had started to separate, with “I’m with Stupid” out in front by a point (over “Larry is dating my MUCH younger sister”) and three points ahead of the rest of the pack.

But, the final round would bring changes to the standings.  When the smoke cleared, the RZA had caught up to the leaders – We Had A Tie (for the first time in weeks).

As is the custom, each team sent a sole representative to the table to tackle one final question.  People win “jackpots” all the time, but what was the largest jackpot one at a casino?  The team that guessed closest to the actual amount would take the Trophy, the Title, and the cash!

Deke Rivers was extra feisty. i think someone commented on his “outfit”.

Yeungling Porter was on special, at $1.50 for a full strength, full bodied brew. And, there were chicken sandwiches (and an appearance by the Sonny’s Pool team )

all in all it was a fun and fact filled night, and a close trivia contest. The RZA brought some extra firepower with them as a few friends joined in with the core teamplayers. and that may have been what gave them the extra power to take down the Trivia Trophy last night!

Just from looking at the list, I think that “Corner Team” should be docked a point for the least creative name of the evening by far.

every team started out with a strong first round, and at halftime the scores were 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30.  so teams were starting to gain ground on each other, but no one was able to distance themselves from the pack.

by the end of the third round “We’re Not Going to Sink Like the Titanic” had built a lead, helped by their knowledge of #1 songs by the Beatles.  Even though other teams put in better final round performances, the lead stood up, and the night finished with a clear victor (no ties).  here they are . . .

and afterwards, I had the chance to get a few words with one of the players on the winning team . . .

Of course yesterday was Easter, and we will be reminding all of our friends who gave up spirits for Lent to take it easy. Oh, and Deke Rivers will be dressed like the Easter Bunny. he won’t be doing it on purpose, but that doesn’t matter.
