Tic Tac Rampage
Posted by: | Commentslast night was another edition of Team Trivia! here are some recaps from recent weeks . . .
Kaitlyn and the ever-cuddly Shicky came back from Hershey one afternoon with a special gift for Trivia Night, our very first, specialy crafted, Team Trivia Candy Bar!
A lucky winner from the “shrimpin’ team” [do NOT look up "shrimpin" in the Urban dictionary, btw], took home the prize in a “no questions asked” drawing. So, once again, you don’t need to have your periodic table, or list of U.S. Presidents memorized to pick up some neat prizes at Trivia on Monday Nights!
that week Team Auggie came out on top of the Trivia pile. Here is a pict of them with the Trophy . . .
the following week, the ever dangerous RZA took the crown!
at the end of the third round of trivia, we’ve been ramping up the silliness. much like the games we run on big giveaway nights (say, the GRILL GIVEAWAY, which we are all signing up for this summer every time we play!), we’ve been injecting a different game each week. players from each of the trailing teams compete for enough points to put them back into contention.
what kind of games? well, here’s a snapshot from the “imitate an elephant by wearing pantyhose on your head and swinging your trunk around to knock over a series of water bottles” contest.
or, the “shake your head like a rabid dog in an effort to empty the tic tac containers completely faster than anyone else can” contest.
honestly, it’s worth coming in after the pool match just to see this stuff! of course you won’t get the total thrill of competing, or even having a player in the contest unless you say, blow off pool and just come to trivia!
oh, and a snapshot of last night’s champs . . .
vic did have some help. but he must be the most photogenic of the team, so he gets to be on the front page of the program this week
Beach Party Tonight
Posted by: | Comments
[photopress:beachPartyRegSize.jpg,full,pp_image]
tonight we will be partying, per usual. only there is a distinct style to tonight’s affair. we’re having a Beach Party. that means Tropcial Drinks, and casual beachwear! add some games to the mix (Larry is the man who will be hosting tonight’s conTESTS, and he has some interesting things in store. oh, and there will be a Limbo Contest).
DJ Shickety Shike will be taking care of the tunes, and I’m sure if anyone can rock a dance floor, she’s the one.
So, what do we have? Drinks. Check. Games. Check. Dancing. Check. you can never keep the silliness at bay, so I guess it’s ON!
the blenders should be whirring by 8pm, and the games and dancing should start about 10
Trivia Maniacs
Posted by: | Commentsthe last few weeks of Team Trivia have been interesting to say the least. Larry has put a challenge in place, allowing the teams who are trailing at the end of the night to jump back into the race for first. and, it’s a no questions asked event.
but before i get to involved with that . . . TWO weeks ago we had lots of smiling faces assemble for the night’s contest.
after the first three rounds, Larry busted out the Pasta!! teams who were trailing sent one player (I believe on that night it was the player who was the tallest man on the team) to the table. they chose a strand of uncooked spaghetti, and put it into their mouth. the task was to be the first to pick up 5 uncooked rigatoni with it. in case you can’t form a mental picture, here’s a snapshot:
[photopress:rigatonichallenge.jpg,full,pp_image]
Steve took the lead, managing to skewer four rigatoni. unfortunately, before he could land the fifth, his pasta fell to pieces. it was great fun to hear the entire room cheering their reps on!
at the end of the question rounds, we had a tie. so the RZA and team NASCAR ’70 sent up players to the table to break the tie!
in the end, the RZA was able to come closest with their answer to the question of “In what year was Yale founded?” Go RZA!!
that, set the scene for LAST night. oh, but first, if anyone knows the significance behind the finger triangles in this pic, do tell . . .
now, back to the game. if you’ve picked up the dorko iphone app and mobile website, you’ll already know that we have some Rizza Lovers in the house. last night was Round 1 of “knock off the RZA” in the minds of at least one of our teams. and, as the questions were answered through the night, the RZA was indeed in the lead.
but then came the “catch up” event, or as Larry likes to call it, the “Try it to Tie it” contest. and this time, we busted out the balloons and beer pong cups.
each team chose a player as their rep. the task? blow into a balloon, and then use escaping air to knock over a series of plastic cups. best time wins.
tanney doesn’t smoke, but neither did anyone else on his team. and truth be told, watching smokers blow up balloons isn’t supposed to be funny, but it is! add the cheering crowds to the mix, toss in a couple of bonus points, and you’ve got a pretty insane challenge.
the final bonus question was a printout of the different celebrities who participated in the “Got Milk?” campaign. the team of “the Three Best Friends that Anyone Could Have” practically swept it, and that proved to be enough to put them in the lead at the end of the game.
congratulations guys!!
when asked in the rare postgame interview, the TBF team said that “after 35 weeks of coming up short, it’s good to see the cream finally rise to the top of the trivia world”. well, they didn’t actually say that. but, they said that if i said that they said that, that’d be ok. so, that’s sort of like saying it. which is good enough in this instance.
next week should be a doozie!
everyone should sign up for the Dorko’s text alerts: test “txtrs dorkos” to the number 368638. this is especially true of anyone playing trivia next week. hint, hint. nudge, nudge.
Yep – There’s An App for That
Posted by: | Comments
yes, we now have an Iphone/iPod touch App, and a mobile web site. You can download it for FREE, and keep track of the happenings at the Corner of Fourth and Poplar from anywhere!
if you are surfing here from your phone, click on the link, and you should be on your way!!
Summer Trivia
Posted by: | CommentsFriday night was a GREAT time!! big thanks to nikki shiko for putting together the tunes for us! you are the best!
i think that we will be repeating that adventure well before the summer is through. a bus ride, the Mt. Valley experience, and back to Dorko’s to finish with drinks and dancing!
MONDAY NIGHT – TEAM TRIVIA
[photopress:2011Grill.jpg,full,pp_image]
The GRILL has made it’s appearance beneath the big screen, and someone who plays trivia will take it home! each week people who make trivia on a Monday night have their name entered into the basket. on giveaway night in August, we pull names from the basket, and those players will compete for the grill and other prizes!
in the meantime, we’re giving out prizes every week. larry has added some interesting twists to our Monday Nights. how many marshmallows could you stuff in your mouth if it meant helping the team?
the fun is fueled by Personal Pitchers of Miller Lite – $3, and partner pitchers for $4.50. the kitchen is open, and the games begin at 8 pm.
last week, the RZA outlasted the other teams to take the title of Team Trivia Champs . . .
btw, these folks do NOT play Dorko’s Trivia . . .

Bus of Adventure
Posted by: | Comments[photopress:bus1.jpg,full,pp_image]
well, it turns out that summer is upon us. and one popular summer gathering place that is not named Dorko’s Cafe (corner of Fourth and Poplar, Mt. Carmel PA) is the Mountain Valley Country Club with a big ass deck overlooking beautiful scenery. And since more than a handful of people enjoy an occassional excursion, especially when there is drinking involved, we’ve joined in on making it easy to get away on Friday Night for a short while.
There is a BUS leaving Dorko’s friday that will take all passengers to Mt. Valley and, most importantly BACK. it’s $12 round trip, which is roughly .004% the cost of a DUI. give or take a thousandth of a percent. and as always, any time spent on a bus with co-drinkers from Dorko’s, however brief, is time Well Spent
Happy Hour runs Friday afternoons from 4 to 6, and that means $1.50 Domestic Bottles and Cans, so you can warm up at the bar before departing. and, we’re hoping to put together some fun stuff for when the bus lands back at Dorko’s later in the evening.
Steel Tip Darts
Posted by: | Commentswe hosted a Steel Tip Dart Tournament in May, and it’s about time to get the results posted!
on Saturday afternoons when the Steel Tippers gather, the back room turns into a three dartboard arena . . .
[photopress:steeltippersMay11.jpg,full,pp_image]
shooters came from as far away as landsdale and lancaster to put ther skills to the test in a random draw competition. some of the shooters from the Dorko’s League, past and present were in the mix as well. so the day began with different two-man ten teams in the mix.
a lot of the Steel Tip afternoons mimic the Tuesday night beer league. players meet up after not seeing each other for a while and catch up on happenings. stories flow, smiles are everywhere, and there are darts in the air to boot!
after a while the tournament wound down to the final few teams, so other shooters kept themselves active by participating in a last man standing event. that’s probably one of my favorite forms of darts. each person takes three darts and throws them at the board. the person(s) shooting the lowest score is dropped from the game. and it continues, until there is only one person standing. it’s like you’re hoping your one bad inning is given a pass because of someone else’s WORSE inning. hehe.
here are some picts of the fellows who lasted longest in the tourney . . .
and our finalists, Dennis and Bob . . .
Bob was also chosen for the Triples Event. even though I think that Bob can take the line at home and place 4 consecutive darts in the trip 17, he didn’t land a dart during the event. that happens. still, every chance to take the line in a Triples Event is an exciting time.
and finally, a pic of our winners, the soft tip shooting Travis, who wins the “best hat of the day” award, and his partenr our own Kirk Wimble, who wins the “best T shirt of the day” award. so, hats off to our two fashionable champs fo the day!

Shuffleboard – 2010-2011 Season
Posted by: | Commentsthe Mt. Carmel Shuffleboard League came to a close a few weeks ago, and this year was like no other!
The Clover Hose had been leading the league for weeks, while Dorko’s kept within striking distance. (striking distance is also known as “second place”, for anyone keeping score at home).
when the final week of the season came around, nothing was settled. the Clover’s had their fate in their own hands. win out, and take the championship. stumble, and anything could happen. but, winning every single game in a match is not something that you can be reasonably expected to do. and the Clover’s dropped a game midway through, which opened the door.
Dorko’s couldn’t be expected to run the table either. and over the course of the night they too dropped a game. and it looked like hope for the title had been lost. and then the unexpected happened. the clover’s dropped another game. and the room at Dorko’s filled with players from various teams wanting to see how the season would wrap up.
the pressure was on! and the final Dorko’s shooters rose to the task, and finished the season with a string of winning games. and where did that leave everyone standing?
Both Teams TIED For First Place !!
In the Shuffleboard League, each invdividual game is counted, and after MONTHS of playing, both teams had the same number of wins! apparently this the first time that two teams stood at the top of the standings together, and there was no tie-breaking rule in place to handle the situation. and after much discussion it was agreed that the shuffleboard season was long, and if two teams tied, that’s how it ends.
Co-Champions!!!
congratulations to the shooters from BOTH teams for your year-long efforts on the board! it was an excellent season, that was thrilling, and fun! the only problem is that since the games were so important, i didn’t want to catch anyone off guard with a camera flash, and so we don’t have any picts! maybe we can get some at the party!
Karaoke May 2011
Posted by: | CommentsSaturday Night was full of fun. Once again we had a Weekend Karaoke party, with Tony Tone spinning the tunes. A BIG series of thumbs up goes out to the fellows who began the day in Baltimore after the Preakness party, and made their way back home only to keep the Party going until the wee hours of the morning!
Shick and Randy did a great job keeping the liquid love flowing! there were some seriously cool performances on the mike. My favorite at any of these parties is Sammy doing a rousing rendition of Baby’s Got Back! how can you NOT love it?!?!
after it came time to hand the microphones back in, the music continued to play. we don’t have an actual dance floor, but i think that stopped exactly NO ONE from busting out their moves. it was awesome! from the whole room doing the Dougie to the spontaneous dance offs, it was great fun. and yes Hookie, we will do it again
[photopress:samTitChumley.jpg,full,pp_image]
oh, a Big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to Dina.
thanks to everyone for coming out and partying with us! we will be sure to do it again!
Spring 2011 High Low
Posted by: | Commentsthe dart season really ends with the High Low games. we recently held the High Low tourney for the Spring session, and a good time was had by all!
Georgie Leshock stepped things up by hopping in the kitchen and ripping up stromboli and pizza pies that were praised both LOUDLY, and for DAYS following the party. and the loudly thing has nothing to do with Traci, the praise came in from across the board.
Oh, and we shot darts too! Cookie and Curtis paired up for the day. they didn’t get much momentum though as Cookie found it too hard to carry Curtis far into the tourney.
Teams that did make it through the first few rounds include Zig and Mike Kerrick, Georgie and Ed, and the pairing of Timmy and Sinko. As the day wears on it becomes apparent that tournament darts are a combination of dart skill, and physical endurance.
when the finals came, Ed and George were on the Catbird Seat. but Timmy and Sinko battled and after the first match (2 out of 3 falls), things were even. And in the FINAL finale, timmy and Sinko came out on top again, fighting their way through the One Loss bracket and going all the way to the top!!
Congrat Guys – Well Played !!
