October Steel Tip Recap
Posted by: | Commentson saturday past we had kindof a preseason dart gathering. the american league didn’t open until last night, but we still gathered for an afternoon of darting. only, we did it Steel Tip Style. roughly 20 shooters came for a couple of random draw two person team tournaments.
we shot 501 Open In/Double Out, and Cricket. double elimination tournament brackets. and had a great time!
with three boards going, and a fourth one sitting in reserve there were plenty of darts flying through the air. i didn’t take a snapshot of the back room because there was NEVER a time when there wasn’t at least one shooter at the line ready to throw. and i just didn’t want to catch someone off guard with a flash. trust me, it was non-stop action.
we also snuck in a Last Man Standing, and a couple of throws for the triples event. no one managed to hit a trip while the spotlight was on them, so the total grows some more. the next Steel tip event is going to take place at the Silver Bullet on FRIDAY night, october 22nd. there’s already one car full of shooters planning on making the journey, and knowing those guys it’s a good time in the making!
a big thanks goes out to everyone for making it such a good day. folks came in from as far south as Lancaster to participate, and it turns out some old friends have really sharpened their dart games. it was great to see!
here are some picts of the pairs who rose to the top during the day . . .

that’s first place in the first tournament going to Dennis Conti and Chris Douthat. and second place going to Ed Dormer and Allen Johnson.

in the second tournament Mark Rohlfing was paired with Chris, and they came out ahead of Ralphie and Doug Troutman in the finals.

it was great fun to play in the tournaments. a couple of guys were throwing in their first english dart tournament, and did well. some of the shooters were steel tip veterans, and they were great fun to watch. i honestly can’t get over so many people throwing so many darts, and what fun it all was.
DARTS
Posted by: | Commentsthat’s right, dart season is upon us. we will be shooting darts today in the October Steel Tip Tournament.
ENGLISH DARTS SAT. OCT 2nd
it’s a random draw partners tournament. well, actually we’ll probably get two in at least. and i’m hoping that’s with a triples event and a last man standing as well. the bar opens in half an hour, and i’m sure we’ll be shooting for hours and hours to come, so feel free to sop by even if you don’t plan on being in time for the first tournament.
we kick off League action Tuesday in the Fall American Dart League. the roster list and schedule is posted at the bar. i’ll get them posted here shortly. and yes, we will have burgers in sauce on Tuesday Night.
Saturdays Oct 9th, Oct. 16th and Oct 23rd we are having a three week 2 Man American Dart Tournament with a 70% handicap.
it’s $20 a man, bring your own partner. we’ll be using the ABDA formula for figuring averages, and a 70% handicap. four teams advance from each of the first two weeks, and the finals are on the 23rd. it is a double elimination event.
only 16 shooters max per day, so we’ll have enough guys to have a good time, without the worries of having to last until the wee hours of the morning to find our winner.
the usual start time: registration at noon, darts fly at 1pm.
so if the question is “what’s going on?” the answer is DARTS. with some Phillies playoffs action thrown in the mix this week. as well as Team Trivia on Monday, and the NFL action Sunday afternoon (which includes the Sunday Seniority Clock), and Wing Night on Thursday, oh, and Tacos on Wednesday, and some home football Friday Night, and . . . . just stop in. Something is bound to be happening!
that’s my partner
Posted by: | Commentsi was just talking with Skinner about the dart happenings that will be taking place during the fall, and that includes a lineup of English Steel Tip tournaments. after all, we just ran a Last Man Standing for the Saturday Night survivor contest and pub darts are in the air again.
in case you didn’t know it, in the Steel Tip luck of the draw partner tournaments, Skinner has made a habit of drawing partners who are both lovely ladies, and deadly dart shooters. and after they throw a solid inning, he’s been known to yell “that’s my partner!”.
during our last Steel Tip event at Dorko’s I was lucky enough to pull a Skinner. and this afternoon I find out that my dart partner for that event was indeed a World Class Shooter, besting players from as far away as Spain while taking down several Women’s titles at the Chicago Bullshooter Soft Tip tournament . . .

you’ll also recognize the incomparable Mr. Mike Abboud who also had success at the tourney . . .

Way To Go Guys!!!
Spring High Low Champs
Posted by: | Commentsthe spring dart league wrapped up completely with their High Man/Low Man tournament. players are paired up depending on their averages. the highest shooter is paired with the lowest shooter, the second highest with the second lowest, and on and on.
per usual, a good time was had by all. events unfolded, and a pair of teams found themselves battling over the title. Doug and Timmy squared off against Randy K and Mike Kerrick. it was one of those match-ups that seemed to favor one team on paper. but, there’s a reason we play the games. players can rise to occassion when the spotlight shines.
Randy K showed up with a solid performance and his teammate Mike Kerrick brought his A game as well. It was great to see mike have success in the finals considering the work he put into his game recently!
Congrats to our champions . . .

Handicap Dart Results
Posted by: | CommentsSaturday we hosted a 70% handicap, three man dart tournament. it was great to see everyone!
different teams took different approaches to the tournament. some teams had great shooters, but suffered by having to spot teams points in every match. other teams paired average players and let the points fall where they may.
curt susnoski had the high game of the day, banging a 52 in the early going. Tanney joined in on the action, but his scores fell shy of the highwater 52 mark.
the team of bumper/randy k./skinner faired well, notching a couple of wins in the tourney before they ran into doug/z/aaron in the finals of the loser’s bracket.
everyone shot well, and i’m sure that the rhythm you can find in a three man setting helped people find their targets a little more often than they do in a five or six man league. Aaron and Z put up several games in the mid 30′s which helped propell their team into the finals.
the last matches of the night though went to chris/Vince/Todd where they prevailed in games of 99-89 and 100-95. That gave them the title!!

Vince – Chris – Todd Harder
SATURDAY THE 24th – we’re jumping right back into the dart tournament action with the High/Low Contest from the Spring League. Pairings are made at 12:30, and darts should fly by 1pm.
I know Booper Schu won’t be there to say he’s absolutely starving and ready to die at 11am, but I’m recommending that you EAT BREAKFAST on Saturday. the food won’t be done until AFTER we pick partners.
Dart Updates
Posted by: | CommentsTEAM SWAT TAKES THE TITLE
There are a lot of things happening on the dart front these days. Last Tuesday we wrapped up the Spring dart season at Dorko’s, with Z collecting another trophy for doin his part. His team, which also includes . . . .
- Joe Swatski
- Mike Kerrick
- Nate Dobeck and
- Lukie
were able to squeak out a first half championship in a very highly contested race. and then on Tuesday they dropped their first two game to Doug’s Team, setting up a final game that would either give them the second half championship, and the title for the season – or send things into a best of three showdown for the league title.
in that last game Joe Swat came alive, posting a 51 game helping Team Swat sweep the season and giving them the title.
we’ll be taking picts of the champs at the High/Low which is scheduled for April 24th. Let me say that again.
High/Low Tournament is Sat. April 24th
there. the high shooter of the season was Joe Swat, with a 42 average. Damien Zigler takes the high game award with a stunning 57 performance!
This Saturday April 17th is the handicap tourney
this saturday – the 17th of April, we will be having a three man 70% handicap tourament. entries have already started rolling in, and we’re capping the event at 12 teams max.
here’s how a handicap works. shoot with whomever you feel like. we’ll add up everyone’s averages from both teams. if your team has a better average, say by 10 points you give the other team a spot. 70% times 10 = 7 points. so, you’ll spot them 7 points.
here are the averages:
swat 42
dave 38
doug 38
ed 35
remash 34
kozy 33
randy k 32
biggie 32
ando 32
lukie 31
frank 31
beavis 28
chrissy k 26
skinner 23
mike k 25
lawler 40
zig 36
Z 24
Nate 34
i’ll be doing averages for anyone from past leagues. hope to have them all posted tomorrow (Tuesday) night here and at the bar.
The First Half Wrap Up
Posted by: | Commentswell, we didn’t end up at 9 and 9 across the board as far as dart standings go. the first half came to an end, and indeed we have a clear cut champ. but, it was undoubtedly a very exciting race to the top spot.
Swat’s team went 2 and 1 on tuesday, to claim the first half championship! two of their games were decided by two points. so things went down to the wire.
the first half finish was only part of the exciting action. after i had just explained to Bower how much of an accomplishment i thought Lawler’s 55 game was, someone comes along and sets the bar even higher!
Damien Zigler jumped out of the gates with dogballs in the first inning, and a steady stream of fives and sixes giving him 40 after the 7th. that, is a solid game. but when you go on to close the game by hitting another dogballs and a white horse in the 9th, you’ve really made an impression. and so now the High Game of the Season is a 57!!
and so on Tuesday we start the 2nd half of the season!
STATES: the finals for the state dart tuornament are saturday, starting at 10AM. Doug’s team will be trying to make their way to the top via the one-loss bracket. Good Luck Guys!!!
T-Shirts: the new edition of the dart shirts are in!
there is a chance . . .
Posted by: | Commentsthat we could end the first half of the dart season with everyone tied at 9-9. fo course, there is a chance that we could have a clear cut winner as well.
right now, the teams stand at 8-7 or 7-8. so anything’s possible.
last night there were a LOT of solid dart scores. forty games were plentiful. but, they weren’t good enough to keep up with Muff Money. Danny Lawler was simply on his game turning in two 50+ games, including the New Season High game of 55!
STATES:
the two Dorko’s dart teams met each other in the final game in the loser’s bracket on Saturday. and that means we have one team going to the finals – congrats to Doug, Chrissy Schu and Dave Wolfgang.
this week is the final chance to qualify, and the team of Nate, Joe Swat and Corey Hepler will be shooting. Best of luck guys!
Six and Six
Posted by: | Commentsthat’s where all of the teams in the Tuesday Night Dart League stand.
with things as even as you can get heading into the second portion of the first half, things are interesting. skinner kept himself away from Tailgunner status for a second week in a row. Z took that spot this week with an 18.
Joe Swat kept the streak of 50 games alive by throwing a 50 on the dot in a losing effort against Ed’s team.
Biggie had one of the more important darts of the evening. while standing at the line for the triples contest, he managed to land one in the trips.
SATURDAY FOR STATES – there were supposed to be two brackets of teams at States this week, but that has been collapsed to a single bracket that starts at 1pm. unfortunately for us, we have TWO teams headed to Tresckow this weekend. and now they may have to face each other before the day is done. ugh.
these are the last two teams heading up qualifiers, so if you plan on making a trip i’d say head up saturday to support the guys!!
