Trivia Maniacs

By

the last few weeks of Team Trivia have been interesting to say the least.  Larry has put a challenge in place, allowing the teams who are trailing at the end of the night to jump back into the race for first.  and, it’s a no questions asked event.

but before i get to involved with that . . . TWO weeks ago we had lots of smiling faces assemble for the night’s contest.

after the first three rounds, Larry busted out the Pasta!!  teams who were trailing sent one player (I believe on that night it was the player who was the tallest man on the team) to the table.  they chose a strand of uncooked spaghetti, and put it into their mouth.  the task was to be the first to pick up 5 uncooked rigatoni with it.  in case you can’t form a mental picture, here’s a snapshot:

Steve took the lead, managing to skewer four rigatoni.  unfortunately, before he could land the fifth, his pasta fell to pieces. it was great fun to hear the entire room cheering their reps on!

at the end of the question rounds, we had a tie.  so the RZA and team NASCAR ’70 sent up players to the table to break the tie!

in the end, the RZA was able to come closest with their answer to the question of “In what year was Yale founded?”  Go RZA!!

that, set the scene for LAST night.  oh, but first, if anyone knows the significance behind the finger triangles in this pic, do tell . . .

now, back to the game.  if you’ve picked up the dorko iphone app and mobile website, you’ll already know that we have some Rizza Lovers in the house.  last night was Round 1 of “knock off the RZA” in the minds of at least one of our teams.  and, as the questions were answered through the night, the RZA was indeed in the lead.

but then came the “catch up” event, or as Larry likes to call it, the “Try it to Tie it” contest.  and this time, we busted out the balloons and beer pong cups.

each team chose a player as their rep.  the task?  blow into a balloon, and then use escaping air to knock over a series of plastic cups.  best time wins.

tanney doesn’t smoke, but neither did anyone else on his team.  and truth be told, watching smokers blow up balloons isn’t supposed to be funny, but it is! add the cheering crowds to the mix, toss in a couple of bonus points, and you’ve got a pretty insane challenge.

the final bonus question was a printout of the different celebrities who participated in the “Got Milk?” campaign.  the team of “the Three Best Friends that Anyone Could Have” practically swept it, and that proved to be enough to put them in the lead at the end of the game.

congratulations guys!!

when asked in the rare postgame interview, the TBF team said that “after 35 weeks of coming up short, it’s good to see the cream finally rise to the top of the trivia world”.  well, they didn’t actually say that.  but, they said that if i said that they said that, that’d be ok.  so, that’s sort of like saying it.  which is good enough in this instance.

next week should be a doozie!

everyone should sign up for the Dorko’s text alerts: test “txtrs dorkos” to the number 368638.  this is especially true of anyone playing trivia next week.  hint, hint.  nudge, nudge.
