The Rizza has no I in it
Posted by: | Comments
or so I’ve been told, by the RZA. last monday larry was away, but he was kind enough to leave me a list of questions such as . . . .
- What was the name of George Thorogood’s backup band?
- What newspaper editor wrote the headline “Spiderman: Threat or menace?”
- What common sock pattern is named for the Western most region of Scotland?
- What president lived in a home called Monticello?
- What character did John Travolta play in Grease?
four teams made it out Monday . . .
- Hope that $#*% is enjoying florida
- We love jewish Trivia
- the RZA
- and one other
teams battled back and forth through the evening, and when all four rounds of questions were complete we had THREE teams tied for First place. and so the night came down to a final tie-breaking question . . .
“today is the anniversary of the siege of the Branch Davidian compound near Waco Texas. How long did the siege last, in days?”

the team that came the closest was “The RZA”!! congrats guys. this week you took down the Team Trivia title, and next week we’ll be having none other than “Yuengling’s Lord Chesterfield Ale” on special in your Honor!!
Handicap Dart Results
Posted by: | CommentsSaturday we hosted a 70% handicap, three man dart tournament. it was great to see everyone!
different teams took different approaches to the tournament. some teams had great shooters, but suffered by having to spot teams points in every match. other teams paired average players and let the points fall where they may.
curt susnoski had the high game of the day, banging a 52 in the early going. Tanney joined in on the action, but his scores fell shy of the highwater 52 mark.
the team of bumper/randy k./skinner faired well, notching a couple of wins in the tourney before they ran into doug/z/aaron in the finals of the loser’s bracket.
everyone shot well, and i’m sure that the rhythm you can find in a three man setting helped people find their targets a little more often than they do in a five or six man league. Aaron and Z put up several games in the mid 30′s which helped propell their team into the finals.
the last matches of the night though went to chris/Vince/Todd where they prevailed in games of 99-89 and 100-95. That gave them the title!!

SATURDAY THE 24th – we’re jumping right back into the dart tournament action with the High/Low Contest from the Spring League. Pairings are made at 12:30, and darts should fly by 1pm.
I know Booper Schu won’t be there to say he’s absolutely starving and ready to die at 11am, but I’m recommending that you EAT BREAKFAST on Saturday. the food won’t be done until AFTER we pick partners.
Don’t Break the Ice
Posted by: | Commentsa LOT of things happened on Saturday Night in our Saturday Night Survivor series.
Larry played one of his immunity cards because he was away on vacation. Ten of the players made it to sign in, which means we had a couple of contestants receive their third, and final strike. So, so long to . . . .
- Tanney
- Bower
- Freddie
it was great having you!!
the afternoon dart tournament took it’s toll, that’s for sure. but Survivor goes on, and the 9 pm Immunity Challenge brought an old game back to life. The contest combined hand/eye coordination, strategy, and a little bit of luck . . .
Don’t Break the Ice
in the finals, Aaron faced off against Ray in a “first to win five” series. Ray jumped out to a lead right away, and was within one game of putting it all to rest when Aaron started on the comeback trail. taking one game at a time, he managed to string together a couple of wins to set up the final showdown. I call this picture “Before the Fall”. whoever knocks out the piece of ice that causes that little red man, affectionately known as “Freddie”, to fall will lose the contest. Immunity goes to the winner.
the game came down to the very last possible move, where Ray was left in a no win situation. And so Freddie fell for the last time on Saturday Night, and Aaron recevied an Immunity Card. it was a well fought contest, and both Ray and Aaron can be proud of their efforts!
and so we are down to less than the dirty dozen. the next magic number is NINE. once we are down to NINE players, anyone kicked off will be part of the “TRIBAL COUNCIL” and have a vote at the end of the game for the winner. so the next two players voted off will leave the game, and their flames and influence will be extinguished at that time. after that, players will be removed from the island, but they will have a say in who wins the game. that, is power!!

Expect a Big Turnout Next Week
Posted by: | Commentsthere were only a couple of teams for trivia, so the groups of
- “Just Us”
- “Wow, is that only Sun-in?” and
- “Expect a Big Turnout Next Week”
did battle for the trivia crown.
out of the gate the “Just Us” crew took a slim lead, which they lost during the second round. at halftime of the trivia show the standings were . . .
- Expect a Big Turnout – 21
- Just Us – 20
- wow, is that only sun-in? – 19
No one gained, or lost any ground during the third round because all three teams earned themselves 17 points. So, things were tight enough to make the fourth round the difference maker. or in Larry’s words “It was still anybody’s game”.
In the final round the team of “Expect a Big Turnout Next Week” excelled, earning 18 points and breaking from the pack to take down the week’s Trivia Title. Here’s a picture of those smiling gents . . .

Survivor Turns a Corner
Posted by: | Commentsthere are 15 players that remain in the Dorko’s Saturday Night Survivor contest. each Saturday, players sign in between 6:30 and 11. at 11pm the players who are present are given a list of the people who didn’t sign in, and proceed to vote one of them off of the island.
last week all 15 players showed up. things take a different turn when that happens. everyone has thier name placed in a hat (or in our case, I write it on a poker chip and we toss it into a beer bucket) and some unlucky player is chosen at random. this is the first week that we had to do this. but before we get to the thinning of the field, let’s recap the immunity challenge.
Bowling Contest
the Immunity Challenge was the Bowling Machine. Sammy Moroz posted a high game of 210 in defeating Tanney.
unfortunately, he ran into the bowling master, Tony Matulewicz. tony knocked Sammy from the winner’s bracket. Sammy won his way back for a shot at the title, but fell short giving Tony the night, and Immunity.
Sadly, when we drew a name out of the hat to kick a man off of the island, that man was Sammy. Sammy was a fine contestant, and I looked forward to watching him compete in the Immunity Challenges. It pains me to see him leave the island. That’s something I won’t be able to say when, say, Larry gets the boot.
Next Immunity Challenge is at 9 pm this Saturday. and trust me, these are getting more and more important.

Dart Updates
Posted by: | CommentsTEAM SWAT TAKES THE TITLE
There are a lot of things happening on the dart front these days. Last Tuesday we wrapped up the Spring dart season at Dorko’s, with Z collecting another trophy for doin his part. His team, which also includes . . . .
- Joe Swatski
- Mike Kerrick
- Nate Dobeck and
- Lukie
were able to squeak out a first half championship in a very highly contested race. and then on Tuesday they dropped their first two game to Doug’s Team, setting up a final game that would either give them the second half championship, and the title for the season – or send things into a best of three showdown for the league title.
in that last game Joe Swat came alive, posting a 51 game helping Team Swat sweep the season and giving them the title.
we’ll be taking picts of the champs at the High/Low which is scheduled for April 24th. Let me say that again.
High/Low Tournament is Sat. April 24th
there. the high shooter of the season was Joe Swat, with a 42 average. Damien Zigler takes the high game award with a stunning 57 performance!
This Saturday April 17th is the handicap tourney
this saturday – the 17th of April, we will be having a three man 70% handicap tourament. entries have already started rolling in, and we’re capping the event at 12 teams max.
here’s how a handicap works. shoot with whomever you feel like. we’ll add up everyone’s averages from both teams. if your team has a better average, say by 10 points you give the other team a spot. 70% times 10 = 7 points. so, you’ll spot them 7 points.
here are the averages:
swat 42
dave 38
doug 38
ed 35
remash 34
kozy 33
randy k 32
biggie 32
ando 32
lukie 31
frank 31
beavis 28
chrissy k 26
skinner 23
mike k 25
lawler 40
zig 36
Z 24
Nate 34
i’ll be doing averages for anyone from past leagues. hope to have them all posted tomorrow (Tuesday) night here and at the bar.
Temporary Relapse
Posted by: | Commentslast night was the EASTER version of Team Trivia. and yes, that means plenty of candy. i’m big on the jelly beans personally.
a lot of the usual faces were ready to go at it, answering questions like . . .
- What sports team is named after a legendary flying monstor?
- What is the name of the book written by adolf hitler?
- The whirly girls are women who operate what?
of course the night was broken up by the “Prize Questions” where the winners each received an Easter Basket filled with candy and other goodies. If you were able to name either the NBA teams or the U.S. Presidents who had five (and only five) letters in their last names, you could have taken home a basket.
Larry had a big bonus question to close the night, so it really was anyone’s game until the end. One question made me chuckle . . .
“What president survived the first ever attempted assassination due to two pistol misfires, and then proceeded to beat the shit out of his assailant with his cane?” only Larry has such a way with words.
the answer was of course Andrew Jackson, the tough as nails war hero known as “Old Hickory”.
the Magic Envelope Pile produced a $20 winner – yay!
when the dust settled, one team was a single point ahead of the pack. so, by the narrowest of margins I present our winners . . . .

So Long Jon Jon
Posted by: | Commentsmost of the players involved in Saturday Night Survivor signed in, leaving only a few open to being kicked off of the Island. Gremlin received his third strike, and so it turned out that those who were present for voting made Jon Jon the victim of the week.
before we got to the voting though, players were offered the opportunity to win Immunity by winning the Immunity Challenge – Rochambeau. we usually call it Rock – Paper – Scissors.
Lori and Larry made their way to the top of the heap, and met each other in the finals. Larry ended up winning that battle, and has secured his second immunity card of the season. that should make him a difficult opponent to knock off of the island.
Next week

Streak v Career
Posted by: | Commentslast Thursday we had the spring edition of SPORTS TRIVIA. Three man teams competed in a night of trivia questions that were ALL sports-based.
the back story is that two of the teams were gunning for each other. Bubba’s team had been on a roll in sports trivia, winning several in a row. Team Tanney had the career wins record for sports trivia. and the balance could change depending on the night’s results. of course there were a couple of teams that were trying to make it all a moot point.
to start the night, players were handed a BLANK 64 team bracket to see if anyone could fill in the March Madness brackets, including winning teams, from memory. Bubba and Big A were able to do it.
teams battled through an evening of questions such as . . .
- What is the width of a football field?
- What former Oakland Raider played the role of Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies?
- Where did Emmitt Smith play his college ball?
- Name the two left handed quarterbacks to win the Superbowl.
- How many offensive players must be on the line of scrimmage in the NFL in order to avoid an Illegal Formation penalty?
as the evening wore on, two teams emerged from the pack. the night was poised to hinge on the final two questions . . .
Name the FOUR teams that won the Superbowl in their Only Superbowl Appearance. And . . . the big one. the question that Bubba had posed to an opposing team’s player while they were riding to Sports Trivia . . . .
Name the 9 different teams (MLB & NFL) for which Deon Sanders played.
it turns out that that little bit of friendly trivia play on the ride to the game may have provided just enough for the team of “Streak vs. Career . . . . Bubba Rest In Peace” to come out on top. Here’s a pict of the Dynamic Duo of Trivia enjoying their moment at the top.
