New Trivia Starting Time – 7pm

Posted by: | Comments (0)

new news on the Trivia front!!  not only has Larry returned to bring us a weekly dose of things that well, only Larry would be the source of, but – we have a

New Starting Time – 7pm

that’s right, we’re gathering at 7pm these days!!!  the buffalo chicken is ready to go, the beer special is still Yeungling Lager bottles for a buck, and now we’re wrapping up the action by ten – so everyone can enjoy a night of fun and trivia, and still hug your pillow at the regular time!!

so, if you’ve skipped a week and fell out of the loop – shine around a little earlier than last time :)

and now, onto the recap of the week that was  . . .

yep, that’s right.  the smiling faces from the take-out corner came out on top.  the turning point in the evening was probably the final bonus question.  Name the continents in order of size.  that size thing being the tricky part.

i knew that Tanney should know the answer to this one, being the trivia force that he is.  but, he came up short this time, and the corner team leap-frogged his crew to take down the title.

oh, best team name went to “Brett Favre can only count to eleven“.

the previous week’s winners have some familiar faces, but they had to face a sudden death overtime question . . . .

[photopress:suddenDeath1_18_10.jpg,full,pp_image]

[photopress:cornerchamps1_18_10.jpg,full,pp_image]

and the week before that . . . .

THIS WEEK

will be the fourth week where we give away a PAIR of snow passes to JACK FROST BIG BOULDER.  after all, ’tis the season.  and no, they don’t automatically go to the winning team.  so, come on out on Monday at 7pm, and you’ll have an equal chance to pick up a night’s worth of winter fun on the ski slopes, for free!!!

During a recent password audit at a company, it was found that a blonde receptionist was using the following password:

“MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento”

When asked why she had such a long password, she said she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.

Week Two of Darts

Posted by: | Comments (0)

there are a couple of things that are happening on the darts front at the bar.  first off, after the end of two weeks worth of action, nothing has changed.  errr, i mean . . .

We’re in a four way tie for first (or last, i guess) place!!  two thumbs up for exciting action on a Tuesday night :)

The high game of the season was 50 going into Tuesday’s action.  now it stands at 51, a mark put up by Dave Wolfgang, who had a VERY hot hand this week!  he also managed to land a triple during the triples event, and it was as good a time as has ever been to do that!

dave led shooters for the week.  Joe Remash was the most consistent shooter putting up scores of 40, 40 and 41.  Randy K and Joe Swat both turned in 40 averages for the night.  Randy K. is keeping his spot at the top of the averages sheet for the second week in a row.

nother remarkable performance was turned in by Skinner.  he wins the “widest margin” sticker for the week by posting scores that range from 14 to 40.

there’s more dart actin before week three’s tuesday games.  this weekend we’ll be sending a team to the State tournament which kicks off on sunday morning at 11.  Good Luck guys!!!

the tourney is at treskow, same as it has been for several years, and Muff Money will be representing.  there will be others going with him, but you know how it is with Lawler.  the spotlight stops on him.  just kidding, hobo and shawn floyd will going with, and we’re hoping they all have hot hands!

tuesday night – maybe we’ll break the tie.  we’ll definitely have Sandy’s Chili, so without a doubt it’ll be a good time!

Darts are Underway

Posted by: | Comments (0)

on tuesday night we kicked off the Spring version of the dart league.  there are some familiar faces from the fall, and a couple of folks that are joining up for the second half.  the teams look like . . . .

Doug – skinner, timmy wargo, randy kasenych, and dave wolfgang

the one and only Muff Money – tony ford, jon jon, kozy and zig

Joe Swat – mike k, Z, nate dobeck, and Lukie

Ed – joe remash, aaron, chris kanezo, and Biggie

the triples event carries over from session to session, and on tuesday Beavis made his way to the line aiming at the six.  although he was close, nothing landed in the trips and so we carry on for another week without a trips winner.

in team action muff’s men beat team doug 2 out of 3 and ed’s team took 2 of 3 from Team Swat, so the standings are as close as you can get them out of the gate.

high game of the week goes to Randy Kasenych with a 50 in his opening game of the season, which help put him on top of the averages sheet.

Top Aves after Week 1

Randy K. 43

Muff 42

Ed 40.3

Kozy 39.3

Swat 38.7

Sports Trivia Jan 2010

Posted by: | Comments (0)

that’s right, we ran our January version of SPORTS TRIVIA recently.  Sports trivia is different from our regular Monday Night Team Trivia in several ways.

First, all of the questions are, you guessed it, based on SPORTS.

Second, the teams are capped at Three Players, so even if you have a tablefull of guys who know every football player drafted since ’62, you can only have three of them gathered on a team.

Third, did I mention that it’s all SPORTS?

and so last Thursday we settled in to the back room, and players were asked questions such as . . .

How many rounds are in the NFL draft?

What team brought UCLA’s record college basketball win streak to an end at 88?

In the game of tennis, what is an “Ace”?

What golfer is known as the “Golden Bear”?

What 3 MLB franchises have never played in the World Series?

the team of “Back Table” jumped out to an early lead, but slowed down in rounds two and three.  the team of “Don’t Blame Me, Blame the Architect that Built the Stadium” snuck into the lead, and never looked back.  here’s a snapshot of the big sports brains of the evening . . .

the next Sports Trivia will be a “March Madness” version.  no, it won’t be all college basketball.  but, it never hurts to pay attention to the sport in season when Sports Trivia night rolls around!!

High Low Fall 2009

Posted by: | Comments (0)

saturday we gathered for an afternoon of fun, camaraderie, and darts.  with the NFL playoffs on the tv screens, and food and drink a plenty, it was certainly a recipe for happiness.

16 shooters from the fall league gathered, so there were perfect tournament brackets for this affair which partners the higher shooters of the league with their lower average counterparts.

as we went through the day, it was certainly necessary to stop and take a moment to recognize the man who stood at the top of the average sheet from the fall . . .

a big round of congratulations goes out to Joe Swatski, who managed to lead the league and win the High Average Award.   the reason you can see him double-fisting the trophies on Saturday is because he is also the man behind the highest game shot during the season, so he took that award home as well!!!

as the day wore on, day turned into evening.  and darts were scheduled to give way to shuffleboard.  except the dust hadn’t settled, and we didn’t have a clear pair of dart champs!  so while the non-darters on the shuffleboard team did their best against the West End, there were still things that were undecided at Dorko’s!!

Jon Jon and Dougie Troutman grabbed third place.  that left a showdown between Randy Kasenych and Chris Kanezo, who were sitting on the winner’s perch, and Ed Dormer and Young Joe Zaharick who were trying to climb out of the loser’s bracket to take the day.

after the first clash, joe and ed managed to pull into even against chris and randy.  and while it’s possible to rise up out of the loser’s bracket and take the day (Doug did it in the last Big Dog event), it’s certainly not easy!

and so there was one last set of games remaining, shuffleboard in the waiting, and the season’s High/Low title on the line.  battle was done, and when the smoke cleared, Ed and Young Joe managed to find their way to the top of the hill!

congrats guys on a gutsy performance and a victory on Saturday

in lieu of flowers . . .

Posted by: | Comments (0)

last night at trivia, we were missing ur one and only Larry Wisniewski.  and yes, he’ll be upset that i purposefully got his last name wrong.  he hates that stuff. ;)

we’re expecting him back next week, so all will be back to as normal as it gets around here on a Monday Night.  and that means Buffalo chicken sandwiches (so you can breathe deep again Tanney).  and the return of the Magic Envelope pile.

in the meantime, despite the chill and potential snows, we had a wonderful trivia gathering!   teams made their way through questions like . . .

  • where does spongebob squarepants work?
  • what band did bass player Sid Vicious play for?
  • what chesspiece moves as far as they want, but only diagonally?
  • what is the name of the machine driven over the ice to resurface it between periods in a hockey game?
  • in what city did the gunfight at the OK Corral take place?

the lead went back and forth throughout the evening.  when the dust settled, one team managed to come out ahead by one half of a point.  The crew of “what happened to the wings?” prevailed by the slimmest of margins!  here’s a picture of the champs . . .

[photopress:whatHappenedToTheWings.jpg,full,pp_image]

LAST week, these smiling fellows took down the title . . .

notice any familiar faces?

Fall Darts Showdown

Posted by: | Comments (0)

last week the team that took the first half title and the team who took the second half title met to do darts battle, and decide the overall Fall 2009 Season champion.  that means Team Doug and Team Swat met head to head.

Game 1: in the first game, doug and chrissy schu both put up 40+ games, with Lukie pitching in with a 39.  even with Josh Mall handing in what might be described as a 95 cent performance, those scores proved too difficult to overcome for Team Swat.

Game 2: the second game looked to be much different with Gary banging a white horse in the very first inning where Team Swat put up a 19, their best inning of the night at that point.  they went on to hit in the 20′s the next two innings, opening up a 12 point lead after three.  after putting up another 20+ inning in the fourth things looked good for them.

but, in the bottom of the fourth Team Doug went 8-7-5-5-6 for a 31 point inning, all but erasing the lead.  and from there on they caught fire.  Mike Zanella pushed the team with his consistent innings, and a 39 total for the game.  the final was a 178-168 victory for Z’s team.

high game of the night was a 44 by Joe Swat.

here’s a picture of our champs . . .

after increasing his score by over 50% between the first and second games of the match (points that were needed for the vicotry) Josh was a happy camper . . .

[photopress:happyJoshTheDartGuy.jpg,full,pp_image]

HIGH/LOW GAME – we’re looking to get darts in the air for 1 o’clock, so make it for sign-ups at about 12:30.  someone give Zaharick a wake-up call at noon.  taxi service will start some time after the cowboys/eagles affair, which kicks off at 8.

SPRING DARTS – will start on the 19th, there is a sign up sheet at the bar.  the triples event carries over to the spring league, in case anyone cares.
