October Big Dog Results

By

On Saturday we gathered to start the Fall darting experience.  A group of Big Dogs came together to shoot in a singles double-elimination tournament.

From left to right are young Joe Z., Doug, Lalwer, Dave Wolfgang, Zig, Kozie, Joe Swat, Nate Dobeck, Kirk, John “Biggie” Polites, Ed, and the venerable Joe Remash.

the tournament is an invitational event where the winner takes the lion’s share of the prizes.  Danny “Muff Money” Lawler came into the day as the reigning champion, having bested the field in the Spring.  but today, the road to being a repeat champion was too rough to manage. losses to Doug and Dave Wolfgang knocked him out of the tournament, so the seat was open for a new champion.

everyone gave it their best shot and 50 games were plentiful.  the “smile and buy them a beer” game came between Kirk and Nate Dobeck.  After putting up 6 points in the ninth inning, and giving himself a six point cushion and a 53 game, Nate looked poised to take down the first game in his match against Kirk.  Kirk hit a 7 in the 9th, putting him ahead one a single point.  when you hit a 53 and lose, just smile and buy your opponent a beer.

there were several white horses during the day, including one by Joe Swat to close out his 53 game.  many of the games came down to the last inning, and even the final dart.

Kirk’s hand stayed hot throughout the tournament.  he posted back to back 52 games in the final heads up match against Ed.  Here’s a picture of our tournament winner, and new BIG DOG dart shooter (on the left) being congratulated by Ed after the championship match.
