Darts Are In The Air
Posted by: | Commentswell, not exactly, but close. this week is the week of the Bloomsburg Fair, and so we will draft for teams on Tuesday Night.
if you haven’t made it to the bar to sign up, there’s still time. just not much of it, so don’t delay!
there’s a list of 31 players from last fall and spring combined, and i still need a couple of sizes. so, if you shot last year and we haven’t seen you lately, feel free to stop by and help fill in the blanks.
UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS:
this saturday is the Invitational Big Dog tournament. Lawler didn’t ask me to remind anyone, but i thought I’d make sure that everyone remembers that he is the Reigning Big Dog Champion.
October 10th – English Darts Day. we’ll be running pub style dart tourneys all day. luck of the draw partners in 501/cricket. it’s a mixed event, and i expect some ladies to make it.
we’ll have the triples shoot happening, and probably a last man standing as well. towards the end of the evening there will even be a singles event. all in all, it’s a lot of dart shooting, and not so much waiting around, all day long.
Heenan Family
Posted by: | Commentsi wasn’t much for remembering names this past week at trivia, but Larry says that’s who won. what do i remember? That the combined powers of Demansky and Varano constitute a formidable trivia force, and with the help of their teammates (with the possible exception of Tanney) they are indeed a powerhouse of knowledge.
despite this, the team of Atlantic City Beatdown finished the night shy by just two points, so perhaps tomorrow is the night that the tides turn and the trophy finds a new home!
before he was Mayor West, Adam West was in a tv show wearing tights. and, if you knew what words were used to describe the blows he delivered to Villans of all types, it would have served you well!
other questions included:
- What are the three types of triangles classified according to the length of its sides?
- The AM in spam obviously stands for HAM, what does the SP stand for?
- What is Louisianna’s time zone?
this week may bring the answer to the question of “Is Skrully returning to action, or is he holding out for a bigger contract?” apparently the top bid submitted for his services so far is two Wild Turkeys and on Yeungling Lager.
Paper Puzzle: well, that’s what i’ll call it for lack of a better term. two papers the landed on the pokey thingie had the correct answer, with the Cosmic Wheels submission landing first. i’ll get the picture up shortly fellows, camera placement issues are biting me in the butt again today.
what was the puzzle you ask?
17 Flashlight Trip
Adam, Bob, Clair and Dave are out walking: They come to rickety old wooden bridge. The bridge is weak and only able to carry the weight of two of them at a time.
Because they are in a rush and the light is fading they must cross in the minimum time possible and must carry a torch (flashlight,) on each crossing. They only have one torch and it can’t be thrown.
Because of their different fitness levels and some minor injuries they can all cross at different speeds.
- Adam can cross in 1 minute,
- Bob in 2 minutes,
- Clair in 5 minutes and
- Dave in 10 minutes.
Adam, the brains of the group thinks for a moment and declares that the crossing can be completed in 17 minutes. There is no trick. How is this done????
the megapowers
Posted by: | Commentsafter a one week Labor Day induced hiatus, Trivia Night was back in full swing last night, with seven different teams vying for the title. last night brought some interesting partnerships, and a new team into the mix.
a big thumbs up goes out to the “Deadbeat Pigpens” for holding their own against bigger teams in their first Team Trivia contest!
they were testing their wits with questions like . . .
- What device is used in semifore signalling?
and
- In what nursery rhyme is the main character a pieman?
while all of this was happening, several souls were working on a background puzzle that was given at the beginning of the evening . . .
the Puzzle of Planting Trees:
A farmer planted ten trees. When he was done he noticed that he made five rows of trees, with four trees in each row. Show a diagram of his orchard.
there were two correct diagrams submitted by the end of the third round, and these folks were the keen thinkers who submitted them . . .

i won’t give away the fun, but one major hint is that some trees need to be part of more than one row (or you’d run out of trees pretty quick).
Meanwhile, back on the ranch . . . some people weren’t quite able to complete the lyrics to this timeless classic:
The big question that separated one team from the pack was “Name the Five original VJ’s from the birth of MTV”. Those, I could name. I couldn’t tell you if they even have VJ’s anymore. is Kurt Loder still on the beat? doesn’t matter . . . .
at the end of the night, the newly formed team – The MegaPowers took down the title, and the first win of the fall season of Team Trivia!

still, one question was unanswered. what’s on Sammy’s mind after tonight’s loss?

i’ll ask the dynamic duo if they heard anything on the topic.
football season is upon us
Posted by: | Commentsmy luau picts are in limbo, but i’ll get a post-trivia recap up in the near future. in the meantime, there’s no denying that football is upon us.
we’ll have Pulled Pork BBQ before the big Coal Bucket Game Friday, so stop on in for some pre-game revelry and BBQ!
until then though, here’s a glimpse of the game as it once was, compliments of Artie Donovan . . .
