Luau Night Tonight

Posted by: | Comments (0)

yep – the day has finally arrived.  the kids are in school, and it’s time to CELEBRATE!!!  another summer is in the books, and we made it through – so tonight we party.

Oh, and there’s the traditional Monday Night Team Trivia as well.  with a twist.  It’s . . .

Luaua Night

and that means Prizes and ConTESTS.  every trivia team that makes it tonight wins a prize, and that’s without answering a question.

word has it that anyone wearing a grass skirt receives bonus points, so be brave, get in the Luau mood, and dress appropriately!!  (and yes Tanney, you can wear your coconut shell bra)

We’re breaking out the Tropical Drink Recipes as well – so you can enjoy some Mai Tai’s, Blue Hawaiians, or a Caribbean Romance.  Or, take advantage of $1 Yeungling Lager bottles.

But I’ve Never Been at Trivia Night Before!?!?

- ok.  it’s simple.  the game starts at 8 – so get to Dorko’s at 7:30 to get a table (corner of fourth and poplar in Mt. Carmel).  bring your friends, it’s a Team “sport” and most teams arrive in sets of five or more.

there are 4 rounds, 10 questions each.  the team with the most points at the end of the night wins.  it’s that simple.

during the breaks between rounds there are prize questions and the entire night is filled with general merriment and silliness.  and it’s wing night to boot – so come on out, eat, drink, and be merry – tropical style!!

big wins

Posted by: | Comments (0)

we’ve got TWO trivia Nights to recap.  Last week, teams battled throughout the evening.  when the smoke cleared, one team stood at the top of the heap, by a single point.  but, slim as the margin of victory was, there was much joy in winning such a hard fought contest . . .

  • How did they finish first?  by successfully answering questinos such as . . .
  • what sport uses a stimpmeter
  • what monstor move was the first hollywood film shown on tv after hollywood started granting movie rights?
  • name the five members of the rat pack
  • barbara millicent roberts is better known by what name?

This Week – the game was even closer.  not only did it end in a tie, it was a three-way tie!

teams got there by answering questions like . . .

  • what type of animal are heckyll and jeckyll
  • who is pictured on the great seal of the confederacy
  • what company built the zero fighter plane used by the japanese in WWII?
  • name the three bones of the middle ear
  • what person was both playmate of the year and appeared on the cover of the rolling stone

although these three representatives were battling for first place, they all shook hands and wished each other well before the final tie-breaking question was posed.

how many blocks of stone are estimated to have been used in building the great pyramid at Giza?

Vic rose up to the challenge and came closest with his guess, earning his team the title – and the right to display the Trophy next week during Luau Team Trivia!!

what’s next?  unbelievable fun in the form of Luau Team Trivia on Monday at 8!

Our’s Team’s Going to Lose

Posted by: | Comments (0)

yes indeed, last night was trivia night.  and it was a good one!  well, we had skrully out celebrating his birthday, so it’s hard not to have a good time when that’s going on :)

i have to say that someone took the lid off of the creativity box when it came to team names last night.  although some are just a bit too colorful to list here, they made me chuckle.  one that we can share with even the kids in the room is “Jehovah’s Witness Protection Program” – i like that one, and for those in the know “Grem > Joel”.

Hmmm.  Let’s picture that one, shall we?

IS GREATER THAN

How so you may ask?  Earlier in the summer Grem partook in a hot dog eating contest at the OBX, where he housed ten dogs.  Joel accepted a hot dog eating challenge over the weekend, only to find himself failing at 9.  he just couldn’t keep up with the grem master!  sorry joel, but to the victor goes the glory!

Back to Trivia – teams mulled over questions throughout the evening, such as . . .

  • What country uses zloty as its currency?
  • If Airforce One is the president’s pland, what is Marine One?
  • What outlaw was killed by his cousin, Bob Ford, in order to claim the reward?
  • Name the person you can decipher from this anagram: Old West Action

in the end, one team rose above the fray . . .

last night, the team of “Our Team is Going To Lose”, um, didn’t lose!  great going ladies!

one thing that makes me chuckle today is that someone in the crowd was able to sit in the barstool of knowledge and name all 8 countries of the G8 (as in obama spoke at the G8 summit), but no one could name the members of Van Halen!

the week that was . . .

Posted by: | Comments (0)

here’s the week that was, mostly in pictures. . . .

folks showed up on Trivia Night, as is the norm, for some fun and a little competition – and chicken wings.

as the night wore on, the contest heated up, with lots of teams within striking distance of the title.  these guys definitely had a shot at it, and certainly felt god about their chances.

meanwhile, here’s larry furiously grading papers.  generally that look means “leave me alone, i’m busy.  i’m locking the door next time!!”

trivia wasn’t the only thing happening monday.  here’s a couple of shots of some birthday celebrants.

it wasn’t phillipine’s birthday, but he was partying anyway :)

when the dust settled, and it was a close one, these guys came out on top!

[photopress:convertibleMinivan.jpg,full,pp_image]

even though we didn’t go into overtime, as the final round began there were at least four teams within one single point of the lead, so it really was anyone’s game.

Wednesday’s Birthday Celebration

once a year sammy spears gathers with some of his friends to take a daytrip to see the Eagles work out in Lehigh.  it also happens to be the big guy’s birthday, so this year we took a moment to celebrate!  happy b-day meat!
