Memorial Day Trivia
Posted by: | Comments
trivia this week was a fun time! a lot of familiar faces made the event, and a couple of newly formed teams took part. and, i knew that the seats in the corner wouldn’t remian vacant for long . . .
the only face i was used to seeing in that section of the bar on trivia night was Skrully. he formed up with amanda’s team to form the competetive squad of “Red, White, and Blueballs”.
it was a give away night where every team received a prize just for coming out and joining in on the fun. hey man, nice hat . . . .
turns out, i have one just like it . . .
[photopress:iHaveOneJustLikeIt.jpg,full,pp_image]
there was also a beads conTEST. taking down her second beads contest in a row was holly . . .
[photopress:hollyBeadsContestMemDay.jpg,full,pp_image]
one of the better prize packages was a red, white, and blue serving set. tray, placemats, cups, plates, napkins, that kind of stuff. you didn’t need to answer any questions to win it. it was basically a “pick a pop” game (with flags, not lollipops), and sometimes it’s better to be lucky. although i have to tell you, these guys really know their trivia. no more “name the president” questions are coming from me during the prize rounds. you guys are too good!!!
top team name of the night, as voted on by me, was . . . “Women are a lot like dog poop, the older they get, the easier it is to pick them up”.
OH, and we do HAVE A WINNER!!
congratulations folks for taking home the bacon this week!! and yes, the trophy will be yours to display proudly next week!
next week . . . the return of the chicken wings! and more of the same general Monday Night nonsense.
i hear tale that the dynamic duo are boozing it up at the Natalie tonight for their dart league draft, so I don’t expect to hear from them until late tonight, or maybe the morning.
Memorial Day Weekend – a look ahead
Posted by: | Comments
hey guys – the dynamic duo seems to be on a complete bender this week. i’ve written two completely different shorts, and both died and disappeared during rendering. it breaks my heart that the clown learned to say kieski and matulewicz, but he refuses to show off his new found verbal skills. ah, so be it. we’ll pick things up on the run again next week, hopefully.
in the meantime, back on the ranch . . . lassie was able to tell ma that timmy fell down the well. hehe, just kidding, timmy’s fine. couldn’t get out of bed for the steel tip tourney, but he’s just extra sleepy sometimes
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY – life as normal is scheduled at Dorko’s over this festive holiday weekend.
MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY – this is the biggie – we OPEN AT 6 PM for all those who have holiday 6 pack needs. AND for TEAM TRIVIA – where this week, every team gets a prize just for participating.
so, if you’re a bit partied out, but want to catch up on what everyone else has been up to, stop on in. if you partied Sunday, and want just another little tase of fun before the grind kicks back in on Tuesday, stop in for Trivia. and if nothing ever knocks you off of your path, by all means, it’s Team Trivia, Lagers for a buck and the usual merriment on Monday.
the only hiccup in the system is that there won’t be wings on Memorial Day Monday in 2009. yes, it’ll be back to normal in the weeks ahead. So, that’s the plan, and hopefully that helped answer any questions
Oh – and a congrats to Skinner for banging out that Ton-80 last night. very nice darts indeed. now, if you can only “skirt” that thing about the high/low game
Introducing . . . the CHAMPS!
Posted by: | Comments
in the first running of ALL SPORTS TRIVIA, there were 3 teams that finished the night within two points of each other. can you get a tighter contest?
edging out the competition, and laying claim to being the very first Sports Trivia Champs is the team of . . .
Al Kieski, Jason Bower, and Bob Builder. obviously bob felt he could answer the questions with his eyes closed.
they faired well by being able to answer questions like these . . .
-
How wide are the goal posts in the nfl according to the NFL rulebook?
-
Under legendary coach John Wooden, how many consecutive NCAA championships did the UCLA men’s basketball team win in the 60’s and 70’s?
-
John Madden was drafted in the 21st round (244th overall) in 1958. What team drafted him?
-
In what year did they introduce overtime to College Football?
-
What is the record time for a men’s finish in world’s oldest annual marathon – the Boston Marathon? (be within 3 minutes)
-
These four players have all won the Superbowl MVP award more than once. Name them.
They finished the night with a total of 41 points out of a possible 50. Team “Michael Vic’s Pugs” posted a tally of 40 points, and Team “Moonlight Gramam” scored 39 points.
Sports Trivia is not a weekly gathering, so congrats gentlemen – you will be reigning over the competition for some time. BUT – we are going to do this again, so you’d better be prepared to defend your title!!
Tonight’s the Night

we’re going to fire off a SPORTS TRIVIA CONTEST. it will be much like, but NOT EXACTLY like the Monday Night Trivia conTEST.
TEAMS ARE LIMITED TO THREE PLAYERS – so that’s a bit of a twist. choose your partners well
if you don’t have a partner, show up and we’ll put together a team on the spot.
the questions will ALL be sports-based. and yes, there are sports beyond baseball and football. and no, there won’t be a thousand hockey questions. and no, there won’t be any Rugby questions tonight, so you can leave your copy of “Great Moments in Rugby History” on the shelf, for the moment.
there WILL be bonus questions, but they won’t be worth as much in Sports Trivia as they are on Monday Nights. so, nailing the bonus question will be nice, but if you screw up the entire round you’ll still be in trouble.
now, i checked online and it seems that Team Bubba is considered the odds-on favorite at the moment, much to the protests of team tanney. it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out . . .
best of luck to everyone who shows up tonight – we kick things off at 8 pm!
leave the gun, take the cannoli

the trivia contest on monday was uber-tight going into the final round. it seems that the super-team of “leave the gun, take the cannoli” was able to rise up at the last moment and capture the crown. they managed to take the top spot away from the “Kings of the trivia conTEST”.
so . . . “When I add 4 times my age 4 years from now to 5 times my age 5 years from now, I get 10 times my current age. How old will I be 4 years from now?” it might take a moment to figure that one out. the man who gave the correct answer from the barstool of knowledge?
pat the Math Man. i suppose that makes him our reigning “mathlete”!
Wednesday Night is Sports Trivia Night
Posted by: | Comments
that’s right. it’s limited to three man teams this time, and ALL of the questions are about SPORTS. that means football and baseball obviously, but it also means the other events you might see covered by, say, Sports Illustrated. so knowing every player who ever quarterbacked any NFL team will be of value. but, that alone won’t be enough to take you to the top ![]()
Saturday Past – was rocking!! even though i set up the Guitar Hero rig, we never got to actually putting it to use (although i thought the lights were fun. especially when it made shooting the steel tips resemble a Fox Sports presentation). instead there were a hundred merry makers enjoying the after-wedding party, singing along to the juke box (don’t worry about those pitch problems mate – you know who you are:) ), and making it a great night!
ROAD TRIP REPORT – i just got back from the Silver Bullet where we went to shoot a round, or two, or three of Steel tips. awesome time! many thanks to Ralphie for filling our glasses for a final toast, btw.
Kirk faired very well, with he and his partner taking down the first tournament of the day where we played Cricket. he was also the last man standing during the “weakest link” round.
in weakest link, we probably started with 15 people. everyone throws three darts. lowest score is bounced. then, everyone remaining gets back up and throws three more darts. lowest score is bounced. and so on, until there is one man standing. that man was Kirk. yay Kirk!
in the final tournament, Doug and his partner took down second place by fighting their way through the loser’s bracket.
of course the rest of us enjoyed ourselves just fine; after all, it was great company and pretty good dart shooting!
Yay Chickalet

in case you’ve been living under a rock, but somehow still have access to the internet – and are a regular reader of Dorkos.com – this weekend our lad (the one and only Chickalet) is getting married. so, congrats to the Bride and Groom and making the move into the world of married folk. many wishes for life long happiness!!
and of course we’ll be partying at Dorko’s afterwards. in fact, here’s the party schedule for the weekend . . .
GUITAR HERO in FULL SWING on SATURDAY NIGHT – i’ll have the light trees out, and the sound system plugged in, and the stage will be set for anyone who wants to blast out some rock and roll, via videogame. in case you haven’t noticed, we do have a reigning VideoGamer Hall of Fame title holder on the Guitar Hero front in the form of Jason Bower.
he may be playing Saturday night, but there won’t be any offical title defenses in the making – it’s all for fun!
SUNDAY ROAD TRIP – sunday is the monthly steel tip dart tournament, and this time it’s being held at the Silver Bullet. so, we’ll be assembling (we being a mixed group of shooters and drinkers, and drinkers who shoot, and shooters who may or may not drink, and perhaps even those who don’t shoot and don’t drink, but that group is somewhat unlikely to appear actually. got all that?) and heading up the road.
i expect the first tournament to start at 1 pm-ish, so we’ll depart shortly before noon. the more the merrier on adventures like these, so feel free to change your pace this Sunday afternoon an join the gang as we travel to another part of the coal region and do what we do. we’re putting together a team of designated drivers, so the fun can flow freely!
tonight – we’ll be having a short ceremony to recognize the demise of the Overchicken in this year’s NHL playoffs. penguin fans are once again welcome to come and celebrate their hockey team at the bar since at this point it’s all about Detroit losing. man, i hate Detriot! i hope they lose tonight, in High Definition, on the Big Screen!!
on the topic of “Is it really going to happen??!??”
Sports Trivia – yes. in the very near future.
Old Guys vs. Young guys (and by “old” we’re talking 35) Softball Game – certainly in the works. we’ll be selecting captains and working towards a date over the upcoming days. it might hinge on when we can find an available ambulance
Car Wash – yep. won’t be too long now
Skrully Home Run Derby – absolutely!! but this, most likely, will be a spur of the moment event. there’s always something to be said for getting in your “stool time” because some things, you just can’t plan!
oh, and i found the dynamic duo. they were late this week!!
yes, trivia did start 21 minutes late
Posted by: | Commentsbut the starting time would not have affected the crew of Sammy, shicky, shannon, lasko, skrully, bower and brokey. they apparently led from start to finish in the trivia conTEST on Monday Night. even the tricky bonus questions weren’t enough to knock them off stride and let someone else sneak into the top spot at the end.
i’d usually insert a picture right here, but i’m currently in struggle with the camera. when i finally win, and i will, you’ll see their smiling faces right . . . .
[photopress:cornerCrewVicotory.jpg,full,pp_image]
in the meantime, the best team name award goes to . . .
“My grandma can’t wrestle, but you should see her Box”.
trivia question that i really thought i’d be able to get, but didn’t . . .
> Name the six states that have regions called “panhandles”
over the weekend we celebrated on of Josh Mall’s 29th birthdays . . . Go Josh!
