Steel Tip Tuesdays
Posted by: | Comments
before i get into that though, here’s an Official Internet Announcement . . . .
There is a SPRING DART LEAGUE MEETING on Tuesday, May 5th
we’ll decide a date for the high/low for the spring, so come and volunteer your input. OK, now on the Steel Tips . . .
at least until the natalie starts up the summer dart league, we’re gathering on tuesdays to shoot some steel tip darts. last night we had a small luck-of-the-draw tournament. it’s a good time, and everyone gets to shoot a bunch of darts. Timmy seems to get really into it.
Ed and Mikey Z came out on top in the end. they managed to hold off timmy and skinner, who took a run at them from the loser’s bracket.
right before we set up for the finals, we ran a “triples” contest. we drew straws, and took turns shooting at the triple of a random inning. it turned out to be the six last night, and Hobo was the man who nailed it, so congrats to Hobo for his accuracy.

we’ll be getting together again next week. anyone can join in on the fun, it’s not a cut-throat environment, and the more the merrier!

after having taken a lead into the very final question last week, only to be leapfrogged when they slipped on the final bonus question, Skrully and Company came back this week with a vengence.

so, a hearty round of congratulations goes out to “We Love Bonus Questions” for their game winning effort last night.
next week is the big Cinquo de Mayo trivia extravaganza with some special prizes, a bead contest, Corona specials, Margaritas and more!!

they came from behind at the very end, leapfrogging over team skrully to take the title.
most creative team name goes to . . . “Women are like square roots, if they’re under 16 just do them in your head”
questions of the night include:
- What two quarterbacks have 4 Superbowl Rings?

tuesday night decided the fate of all of those who put forth efforts in the Spring 2009 League.
joe’s team proved to be too much for the competition, and took the playoff match for the crown for the second half of the season. add that to their first half win, and the League Championship is theirs.

Timmy Wargo, Nate Dobeck, Joe Swatski, Jon Jon, Mikey Z.
Coupled with his team win, Joe also took the award for haaving the highest average in the league . . .

No, no, no . . . not Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Supermodel Jessica Hart! I mean, the one and, errr, actually there’s more than one.
How about our local Joe Girardi, and his perfect 300 game on the bowling machine!!! Congrats Joe!

Flyers v ‘guins tonight
Posted by: | Commentsit’ll be on Vs (the tv network), and in high def, on the big screen at the bar. come wearing your orange and black.
And the Gang’s All Here
Posted by: | CommentsTrivia Night brought out a lot of familiar faces last night. How about a showing by a wing-eater from the old days, the one and only Scottie Paul . . .
and Schicky, tending the bar . . .
is it 2000 again??
No, it’s not. it’s definitely 2009, and it was definitely trivia night, and the best team name of the evening was definitely . . .
“The difference between me and my couch is my couch pulls out”. here they are, smiling . . .
two points for creativity still wouldn’t be enough for them to best these folks . . .
our champions of the evening – “We’re here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and we’re all out of bubble gum”. I’m not sure it’s completely fair though. i’m currently in talks with the NSA to confirm whether or not Aaron knows everything. preliminary indications are that he’s got a chink in his trivia armour in the Daytime Soap Opera and French Documentary Films categories. other than that, he may well know everything.
the contest did come down to a tie at the end of regulation, so a tie-breaking question was posed to one member from each of the teams. the ass-kickers came closer with their answer to the question of “What year was Ben Franklin Born?”.
Question of the Night:
“in the Tom Hanks movie The Green Mile, what was the name of the death row inmate’s pet mouse?”
TONIGHT:
the dart season is currently at “crunch-time”. tonight we find out if team joe wraps up the title, or if team doug pushes the issue and drives things to a final playoff next tuesday.
Wednesday – the Flyers on the big screen as they start the playoffs against the ‘guins. we’re hoping for countless rounds of free slim jims!!!!!
the First English Dart Tournament at Dorko’s Cafe
Posted by: | Commentsi think it took me until a couple of hours after the tournament finished for things to really start to sink in for me.
on saturday, we had the first English Steel Tip tournament at the tavern. well, actually there were two. with the help of Dennis Conti, we set up four different pub boards throughout the place. and shortly before noon the doors opened and the place filled with Steel Tippers.
they were a fantastic group of men and ladies who loved shooting darts, definitely knew how to drink beer, and were genuinely happy, fun and funny. i think if you didn’t have a good time, you didn’t have a pulse.
it was great to see Ralphie from the Silver Bullet making his way down. and it was great to have a chance to shoot darts with a lot of the guys that showed up. many of the faces were familiar from tournaments at States, Emmaus, the Silver Bullet and other locations – and our guys only ever shot against them. it’s easier to make new friends when you’re on the same team as someone. and this was definitely a friendly group of guys.
here are some photos of the top finishers from the first tournament of the day . . .
TOURNAMENT #1
the winners of the first tournament of the day were Billy Jamieson and Nick Sasinowski
[photopress:jamieson_sasinowski_4_9_9.jpg,full,pp_image]
i did just a little digging and found a pict of Billy Jamieson on the net from earlier this year when his team finished in 6th place at States.
[photopress:jeffrey_douthat_4_9_9.jpg,full,pp_image]
taking second place were Jon Jeffrey and Chris Douthat. Chris is a veteran of the Emmaus tournament (here’s a pict), and we’ve seen Jon plenty of times before as well.
the third place finishers were Allen Johnson, and Doug Troutman.
the first tournament finished in what seemed like record time as darts were constantly in the air, so a second tournament was assembled and there was never a break in the action.
TOURNAMENT #2
[photopress:douthat_lil_joe_4_9_9.jpg,full,pp_image]
the team of Joe Johnson and Chris Douthat made their way through the tourney undefeated, and obviously took down first place.
[photopress:doug_abboud_4_9_9.jpg,full,pp_image]
Doug Troutment and the legendary Mike Abboud took second in the event. I told Mike i’d point out the Phillies dart holder he has in the pict. Go Fightins!!
the next steep tip event on tap will be at the Silver Bullet in May, most probably the 10th. that’s the day after the Natalie handicap tournament, so it’ll be a weekend full of dart action. in preparation for this, and future Steel Tip action we’ll be opening up Tuesday Nights as Steel Tip Tuesdays , and gathering to shoot Steel tips right after the Spring American dart season closes.
