Gremlin did what???
Posted by: | CommentsTeam trivia was a great time last night. after four rounds of ten questions, including some bonus questions, the top two teams were tied. brokey and tony matt squared off in the overtime tie breaker where tony eeked out a victory by coming closer with his estimate of the length of I-95. here’s a picture of the champs celebrating!!

something you don’t see every day
Posted by: | Commentseven if he has one bad ass hook, at least Skrully has a look-alike Mii.

oh, Sheryl won the prize fight, and Shawn Ryan remains undefeated on the tennis courts.
the upcoming week
Posted by: | Comments
here’s what’s on the slate for this week at the corner of fourth and poplar . . .
Monday – it’s TEAM TRIVIA Night, as usual. tonight we’ll be running beer specials on Miller High Life Light, and of course it’s wing night as well. it’s the only day of the week to get a dose of Sweet and Zippys, so don’t hold back. come on out and indulge. you deserve it
Tuesday – Dart night. the season is coming closer to a close and it looks like things are tightening up a bit near the top of the standings.
Wednesday – Wii Night. Shawn will be bringing down the Wii, and we’re setting it up on the big screen for some home run derby, some golf, a little tennis perhaps, and most assuredly a big time boxing match between Sheryl and Skrully. Mr. Kieski (sp?) has been coveting a ringside seat for this ever since it was announced.
Thursday - flyers are playing the panthers. sweet sixteen action starts off as well.
Friday - Shuffleboard, starting at 6:30 at HOME against the West End. so this is a little out of the norm, but why try to hold back the fun and games. it’s a great chance to stop by after work, and catch a little of the shuffleboard team in action – and playing the West End is always a good time!
Saturday – first off, a big congrats to Bumper and Annette for their 30 years of connubial bliss, which is being celebrated on Saturday. also, we’ll have two dart teams in the qualifying round at the Silver Bullet, so good luck to Doug-Muff-Mark Rohfling, and also to Ed-Kirk-Swat. we’re hoping everyone makes it to the finals!
so, those are the highlights, and yes, you can expect a healthy dose of assorted silliness sprinkled in between. hope to see you at trivia tonight.

St. Patrick’s Day Addition
Posted by: | Commentsaddition – edition, what’s the difference? yep, that news-item ad made me chuckle. and no, that wasn’t my idea. it was purely an accident supplied by the advertising department.
So, what happened on St. Patty’s Day Eve? TEAM TRIVIA, and boy were things hopping. between the traditional trivia, and the prize rounds, and assorted St. Patty’s entertainment, a good time was had by all (well, all but one, but who’s counting?).
the remnants of “take your hat off herman” stood victorious at the end of the evening. here’s a picture of that fine cast . . .

Wu Tang
Posted by: | Commentshey guys, you’ll have to forgive me if there’s an alternate spelling for “Wu Tang Clan”, rap was never a concern of mine. That being said, a big round of congrats goes to these guys, as they outlasted every other team in the house – and there were plenty of them. the trophy will be yours to display on Monday!!

The Return of Elvis
Posted by: | Commentsall good things must come to and end, and so it was that Larry returned from Florida and took back the helm on trivia night. even the return of Elvis couldn’t dampen the fun though, as 8 different teams battled throughout the evening.
the boys from last week were able to display the Trivia Trophy at their table, showing everyone else in the house just who the reigning champs were. but at the end of the night, they had to turn the hardware over to these folks – the crew in the corner . .

Spring 2009 Big Dogs Invitational
Posted by: | Comments
the invitations went out some time ago, and no one (with the possible exception of Jay Parker) was afraid to answer the bell. so many guys came out, that it took 3 photos to get them all . . . .
Starring, from left to right:
Bumper, Schicky, Larry (in the pink shirt), Muff Money (in front), Nate Dobeck, Doug Troutman (back in flyers cap), Joe Swatsky (Penn State), Chrissy Schu (black RoseBowl T), Kozie (front, miller lite), Lukie (blue American longsleeve), Dave Hobowski, Randy Kasenych (hat in the back), Pizzoli (old navy front), Damian Ziegler, Booper (phillies fan) Schu, Andy Mekosh, Georgie Zip, Kirk (Maroon darts shirt), Paulie Hornberger (flanel longsleeve, sporting the wisdom greys), Ed Dormer (yellow Tank).
somewhere in one of these picts you can find waldo, errr, anyone mentioned in the roster.

with 20 different shooters, the interesting match-ups were plentiful. highhlights included three different shooters knocking down a 53, and bumper putting up a 48.
doug going into the 9th inning down 8 against kirk, and hitting a white horse for the win was the highlight inning of the day. kirk was also the victim of another great shooting exhibition when kirk managed to put up a 50 game, only to lose to Joe Swatsky (who banged an 8 in the ninth).
on a day like this, with so many match-ups, there are a lot of clutch performances, and innings (games?) players wish they had back. one of the stronger day long stories was Dave Hobowski’s loss in his first match (vs. Joe Swatsky), and his then near domination of the loser’s bracket, where he won 6 matches in a row to make his way to the finals.
in the winner’s bracket, Danny “Muff” Lawler (who usually suffers from a lack of confidence) was shooting steady darts, and chalking up wins. finally, those two shooters, who are often teammates at away tournaments, met in the title game.
Muff came out on top of that contest, and takes over the crown as reigning big dog.
The shooters of the last invitational tournament faired well, with Ed finishing in third, and Nate Dobeck firing a 53, which tied for high game of the day.
all in all, it was great to see so many shooters out, enjoying a fun day rehashing old memories and creating new ones!
