first off, Saturday was an absolute blast at the bar.  congrats to Mr. Pizzoli, I’m glad the wedding went well and wish you many years of happiness together with the Mrs.

as for the rest of the crew, i have no doubts that a good time was had by all.

we had Guitar Hero set up on the big screen in the back, blasting out of the PA speakers.  that drew the attentions of Misters Bower and Matulewicz, who battled to an arguable tie on the game over the course of the night.  of course ties are not good enough, and so the terms for a future, definitive guitar hero battle were drawn up at closing time.  and the date for this battle . . . . ??

 TONIGHT–  After Team Trivia!!!

word of the event got out early, as several unsuspecting members of the community received not-so-anonymous text messages at 4:22am on sunday, letting them know that, in the words of Jay Parker -It’s On, Baby!!  It IS ON!

after trivia night comes to a close – and it should be a special trivia night as we have a special MASTER OF CEREMONIES taking over for Elvis (he’s in Florida, spraying on a tan at the moment) – Randy Troutman will be at the helm!  i really have no idea what he has up his sleeve, but i know i’m not going to miss it :)

for anyone who hasn’t made it to a trivia night, come on out.  it’s a team thing, but you can find a team to join if you don’t have a team to bring.  happens all the time.  and there are prize questions between rounds, so anyone can win something.  that’s part of the fun of it.  the other part of the fun, well, you just need to be here.  it’s unexplainable.

now, back to the battle – after trivia, i’m rolling out the big screen, and setting up guitar hero.  our duelists will each choose a song from one of 4 authorized guitar hero disks, and play on “hard”.  whoever sweeps both games will have the loser wash their car outside of the tavern when the weather breaks (don’t worry, we’ll get pictures, and have skrully in charge of quality control).

if the players battle to a 1 – 1 tie, a random song will be chosen, by me, bob from dorko’s, and they will have a one song playoff.

i have to go charge the video camera . . . .

oh – i almost forgot to mention:

YES – it IS WING NIGHT (if you’re having trouble deciding, the Sweet and Zippy are the house favorite) and

YES – it IS YEUNGLING NIGHT so lagers are a buck a bottle, and so are premium cans (pounders)

hope to see you all there, it’ll be a fun one tonight!

the trip to treskow

Posted by: | Comments (0)

big news for this upcoming saturday!  we’ll have two teams competing at the finals of the PA state dart tournament.  of course the team of Nate Dobeck, Dennis Conti, Lukie, and Kirk qualified in style last week.

Today Doug, Hobo, and Hobo’s buddy from york qualified by going undefeated in their qualifier round.

The Finals are next SATURDAY, and there are sure to be some cars heading out from the bar to Treskow for the day.  if you need a ride, or have room to spare, stop by the bar.  it’s not our first trip to treskow; you can find directions without issue.

it’s always a good time at the finals of states, and the guys enjoy the support.

Dorko’s 3 Advances at States

Posted by: | Comments (0)

here’s a cut and past from the description posted at the A.B.D.A. website . . .

“Incredible Finish…

In the final match of the night Dorko’s Cafe & B.V.F.H.A. shot a match that went into the 12th inning in the 3rd game, an incredible finish missed by all except for a handful. Dorko’s hammer man (Nate Dobeck) came up big in the 9th by hitting a 6 with his last 2 darts to tie.

Then in the 10th another 6 to tie, again with his last 2 darts.

Then in the 11th he shot a red, missed, then hit a trip to tie again to take it to the 12th and the win. WOW!! That’s what it’s all about!!!!!!!!!

Team members for B.V.F.H.A. are Ricky Sechler, Gary Kanter, & Barry Folweiller. Dorko’s Cafe team members are Kirk Wimble, Dennis Conti, Nate Dobeck.

Now that was a match!!! ”

Excellent job guys! Nate, it looks like you’re famous(er)!

The Finals are taking place Saturday, February 21st, so make some room on the calendar to take a trip to Treskow and cheer on our guys!

The following Saturday, the 28th, we’ll all be at home for the Invitational Tournament.

– Team Trivia –

Posted by: | Comments (0)

hey guys, thanks for stopping by.  eventually i’ll move this post to its own page, but for the sake of anyone stopping by from the news item ad, i thought i’d put the trivia info here so it’s impossible to miss!!

TONIGHT – and every Monday, we gather at the tavern.  There are a couple of things going on . . .

TEAM TRIVIA – if you’ve ever gathered around a Megatouch machine and ran through the trivia game, getting all of your friends to help answer the questions – that’s what we do.  kindof.

instead of gathering around a machine, everyone that wants to play together pretty much gets a table, or stakes out a section of the bar.  and no, you don’t need a “pre-made” team.  it’s common for folks to show up, and find some partners that night.

Elvis takes the mike at 8 pm. – (don’t ask, we just call him Elvis), and the questions start.

There are 4 rounds of 10 questions each.  And the topics include a ton of things:  Sports, music, movies, books, television, science, history, geography, marketing slogans, local facts, and on and on.

Want some examples?

> what are the states with names that begin and end with the same letter?

> what product is known as the “copper top” battery?

> who was the MVP of the first Super Bowl?

> name the 7 Dwarves (you know, like Snow White and the 7 Dwarves).

> who are the four characters that travelled the yellow brick road (in the Wizard of Oz)?

> name the four words in the english language that end in ‘dous’

> who performed at halftime of the Cardinals/Steelers superbowl last week?

> ever hear of Oprah Winfrey?  she has a magazine.  what is it called?

> Clint Eastwood’s new film is Gran Torino.  What car company made the Gran Torino?

they’re not all easy, but they aren’t all hard either.  the great thing is that you don’t have to answer them by yourself.  after all, it’s TEAM Trivia.

every answer your team gets correct results in a point being added to your score.  the team at the end of the night with the most points wins the prize pool.

in between the rounds of questions, there are several Prize Questions where individual players can come up to the “barstool of knowledge”, answer a question, and win one of the night’s prize packages.  so, everyone gets a chance to win something.

if you’ve never been here before, but think it might be fun – Come Out!  even if you don’t jump right in and join a team, which you really should, you can see how it works and enjoy . . .

DOLLAR LAGER NIGHT – bottles of Lager are a buck Monday Nights.  and last, but certainly not least . . .

WING NIGHT – that’s right, Monday night is Wing Night.  there are around a dozen different flavors to choose from, including the house favorite, Sweet and Zippy.  you can have them here, or to go.  we start making wings at 7, so feel free to show up early and have some wings and settle into the evening!

Two Hour Delay – No AM Kindergarten

Posted by: | Comments (0)

they didn’t win, but they definitely get my “team name of the evening” award!  clever bunch of buggers they are.

Trivia night last night included a list of things that you probably have to see to believe.  Skrully and Shicky performing “So Long, Farewell” from the Sound of Music was . . . special.  flag down Bower, i think he has video of it on his phone.

while some suffered from the superbowl hangover (hey, this just in, next year’s superbowl will be held on a Sunday – think about scheduling a vacation day for the following Monday;) – the usual teams made it out to compete, and enjoy the evening.  in the end, the guys in the corner managed to take back the title, even with skrully coming up blank on a periodic table question, and Sammy not being able to make it.  the song and dance routine worked.

big congrats to Tony Matt’s team for a super-strong showing.

the ”thinking on your feet award” goes to our lad, who was not afraid of putting together the best list of palindromes in the house!  (palindrome, you know, words that are spelled the same forwards and backwards, like racecar, repaper, level, radar, etc.)
