Life Lesson: Check Their Homework
Posted by: | Commentsthis entertaining tidbit is from the email box of Rich Persing . . .
Always check your child’s homework before it gets to school!
When asked to draw a picture of what they wanted to be when they grew up, 2nd grader Sarah Smith turned in the drawing shown below. Sarah’s teacher was surprised, because Mrs.. Smith had always seemed like a conservative woman. She sent a note asking for clarification as to the picture’s meaning.

Dear Mrs.. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer. I work at Home Depot and I told Sarah how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had. Then I found one more in the back room, and several people were fighting over who would get it. Sarah’s picture does NOT show me dancing around a pole. It’s supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot. From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely,
Mrs.. Smith
Can you give me . . .
Posted by: | Comments7 prime numbers between 10 and 100?
that’s what i asked on trivia night during the prize round. Mr. Paulson must have them memorized because he spit them out like most people could rattle off their favorite rock bands. so, here’s a picture of the winner . . .
he was part of the winning team that evening. unfortunately i didn’t get everyone’s names. i do know that Tanney was in the mix – and that Tanney doesn’t know a thing about Harry Potter. well, except that one of the characters in the films is Harry Potter. after that, he goes right downhill.
i think the better questions of the night were . . .
- name 10 of the 12 streets and alleys (running north and south) between oak street and the silver bowl (oak street is #1) [Prize Question]
- what cereal uses the slogan “kid tested, mother approved”
- who was the MVP of the very first superbowl?
we’ll be running Team Trivia night again on Monday – and during Triva we’re running WING NIGHT as well AND $1 Yeunglings (either Lager Bottles or 16oz cans of Yeungling Premium).
in the meantime, tonight is Open Mike Night !!
Shufflebaord Standings
Posted by: | Commentsthese don’t take into account last saturday’s activity, but they’ll give you a sense of how the Mt. Carmel Shuffleboard League’s season is shaping up so far . . .
Dorkos 42-12
Clovers 40-14
Centralia Legion 29-25
Eagles 18-18
Atlas legion 21-24
Americans 24-30
MC Legion 19-26
Wilburton 20-34
West End A 16-29
West End B 14-31
the numbers given are games won and games lost, so each game counts. it’s not a matter of win more games than the other team on a given night, and you get a single checkmark in the “win” column.
2008 Fall Darts Recap
Posted by: | Commentslast night was the start of the Spring Dart league – and yes, the burgers and sauce were out at the end of the third game. i got the chance to get a lot of people’s T shirt sizes recorded, and i’m working on the list of addresses for the next invitational tournament.
we’ll be doing a run of hoodies as well, so anyone who wasn’t part of the original hoodie crew has a chance to speak up and we’ll add one to the order count.
of course you can’t go forward properly without having recorded the past. and this past dart league was certainly something. let’s start with the individual performances:
High Dart Average
[photopress:lawlerhighAveFall2008.jpg,full,centered]
our lad Danny Lawlermanaged to find himself on the top of the heap when the final averages were calculated, earning him the High Average Award for the fall 2008 season. Great shooting Muff!!
High Game Award
goes to Lukie, who put in an amazing performance on the final night of the season. that just goes to show that it’s never too late to pull out all the stops and shoot the top game of the season. lukie ran out to help a family member with car troubles, and missed the first game of the evening. when he returned, he banged out a 57, for the high game of the season.

Fall Champions
these guys just won a lot of games, plain and simple. and, they are the fall champs. you’ll probably notice some familiar faces because some of the guys are starting their own “championship streak”, having been part of recent past champions.

pictured from left to right are Andy Dowkus, Lukie, young Joe Z., Nate Dobeck, and Danny Lawler. Missing from the photo are Joe Dowkus and the mystery shooter. by the way m.s. – i have your trophy at the bar.
High Low Champions
yep, these two fellas won the largest high/low tournament we’ve ever had. 11 teams showed up on hi-low saturday, and in the end, when the dust settled and the shotglasses were emptied . . .

Doug Troutman and Bumper took home the honors. Congrats gents!

Jarrad Yanonis
Posted by: | Commentsactually, that’s a pretty good trivia question. if anyone not named Jarrad Yanonis can tell me who Jarrad Yanonis is, they deserve a little smiley sticker. or maybe a red star.
what Jarrad Yanonis is is the name of the trivia team that came into Dorko’s on Monday night and knocked off the reigning champs. the combined efforts of bubba, flav, mike, dave m., scrubzie, and paul zanella were enough to take down first place last night, and send team schick to the showers without a victory. rumor has it that skrully was overcome with disappointment and skipped the post game press conference.
for anyone who hasn’t made it out on a monday night to experience team trivia, questions range from the “oh, that’s easy” to “whoever knows that should get a life”, and sentiments in between.
the best way to understand trivia night is to experience it. and, it happens to be $1 Lager night, and Wing Night as well
in other news . . .
i’ll try to get a shuffleboard schedule in place shortly. i know some folks have been asking about when and where the team is playing. i do know that we played Wilburton at home last saturday night, and came out on top. props to Matt for his first victory on the shuffleboard, ever i think. he truly celebrated in style.
state darts is coming up soon. as i get info on which teams are shooting on which days, i’ll post it.
Spring Dart League – is starting next week. tonight is the draft. if you haven’t already signed up, there’s not much time left.
Open Mike Night – every Wednesday. this week i’m looking forward to jamming with ronny, and rumor has it that george is working on a three song set. i tried to fray his nerves by telling him that we’ll be video recording everything on Wednesday for publishing on the dorkos youtube channel. i think it worked.
Yes – we do have a dorkos myspace page as well.
i’m also way behind on the picts, so look for some new images of darts triumph and happy people in the near future.
